Supplier already onboarded to Industry Standards – Battery Factory

The Scania Battery Factory (ME) marked the first release of Scania Industry Standards, and the first group of suppliers adopted the new EDI and label setup in 2023. On this page, you will find information relevant to the Battery Factory and the implications of Scania’s transition to Industry Standards. As Scania continuously improves its IT landscape and makes further advancements, you are required to stay updated on the latest developments and changes.

Timeline of Industry Standards in Battery Factory (ME):

  • April 2023: First batch of suppliers went live with the new EDI and label setup.
  • October 2023: Second batch of suppliers went live with the new EDI and label setup.
  • July 2024: Third batch of suppliers will go live with the new EDI and label setup.

Overview of key changes

  • Updates to EDI landscape

New and improved EDI messages (incl. Delivery schedule, Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN), and Invoice). The new EDI message version specifications will be communicated in the technical specifications and logistics manual. This will require IT changes on your end.

  • Replacement of open order with scheduling agreement

The scheduling agreement includes information that is needed for automatic matching to be done later in the goods reception and invoice matching. For the foreseeable future, the scheduling agreement will be sent out in pdf-format, but could in the future be sent as a separate EDI message.

  • Implementing Handling Unit (HU) numbers

In order to improve the efficiency of Scania operations – including faster time to resolve quality issues – Scania has decided to require all suppliers to include a unique global Handling Unit (HU) number. Many suppliers already have this number – but for those that do not will need to acquire a unique global number series and apply it to the label of all goods that are sent to Scania. The unique handling unit numbers are required on the outer packaging level (e.g. pallet) and also on the inner packaging level (e.g. individual boxes on pallet). This may require process and system changes.

  • Updates to transport label

The introduction of the Handling Unit number will also affect the transport label.  The serial number field on the label will have to contain the handling unit number for the production locations that have implemented SAP (i.e. the Battery Factory (ME).

For more detailed information about the changes, we urge you to carefully read and understand the updated logistics manuals (STD4172-1 & STD4172-10) linked here: Scania STD documents and the EDIFACT technical specifications found on this page.
